The M.S. degree program in Earth and Environmental Science equips students with expertise in environmental, geographical, geological, geospatial, ecological, and data science topics while fostering the ability to integrate knowledge across interdisciplinary fields. What Will I Learn?
The program in Earth and Environmental Science prepares students for a future in this broad field through a selection of hands-on courses in geography, geology, and biology. Core training focuses on advanced concepts in Earth and environmental science, data analysis, geospatial technology, and application of field methods. Students will develop expertise with guidance from their faculty mentor, having flexibility to choose electives that are geared to their interests and professional goals, while developing the tools and skillsets needed to work in professional positions in the geoscience and environmental sectors. Students pursuing the thesis option will develop independent research skills through proposing, implementing, writing, and defending a thesis.
The Lake Thoreau Environmental Center
The Lake Thoreau property is a 291-acre nature preserve that is home to a wide variety of environmental science research. The site is equipped with a large environmental center that houses a smart classroom, the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Herbarium, and the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Fish Museum.
