Secondary Education
Make a Difference – TEACH!
For over 100 years, Southern Miss has led the state in producing exceptional teachers. School districts across the state compete to employ our graduates with demand being particularly strong for graduates of our residency and apprenticeship pathways. The Secondary Education BS is designed as a flexible hybrid program to balance university coursework with immersive, field placement opportunities. Secondary Education majors are trained in evidence-based approaches to teaching and select one of six subject areas of specialization (Math, Social Studies/ History, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics). The program culminates with a year-long teacher residency placement that will prepare you to make a difference on your very first day as a teacher. Join us and become part of this long tradition of preparing qualified, confident educators.
The School of Education teacher education programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation. The program is approved by the State of Mississippi through the State Process and Performance Review.
